Important stuff.

Please check out our commenting policy before you wade in. If you want to see a service listed that you don't see here, go here, send us the info we need, and we'll get right on that. Finally, a disclaimer: we've set this blog up because we wanted a giant list of editors, and honest reviews are important and hard to come by. Reviews and comments are by their nature subjective, and do not reflect the opinions of the editors of this blog, nor do we vouch for their accuracy. We do not endorse any of the services that we list. We're just listing them. In fact, we don't really have an editor for this blog. Possibly we need one.

Review and commenting policies

This site exists because we feel there is a need for both a centralized listing of available freelance editing services and honest reviews of those services. We know that anonymous comments can turn deadly, and we're not interested in hosting vendettas or sock puppets, so the comments will be moderated. Here's what we look for in a review comment:

- Specificity. Don't just say "they suck" or "they're awesome!" That doesn't help anyone. If you had an issue with an editor's slavish devotion to a particular style manual, over and above your objections, say that. If they were prompt at returning emails, and proactively communicated with you through out the process, say that. The more specific, the better.

- No personal attacks. We acknowledge that this can be somewhat of a grey area, since a working relationship involves, by necessity, personal interaction. But, c'mon. It's not that grey.

- Stick to substantial comments about the process. A good rule of thumb is anything you would have liked to know before engaging their services.

- Criticism is great, but be free with your editor love, too. This probably goes without saying, but try to be as balanced and fair as you can be.

- Would you recommend them? For who? Explains itself, right?

It's our belief that every sufficiently grammatically adept editor is right for someone.

We will delete comments that don't adhere to the above guidelines, or that, for whatever reason, seem fishy to us. We're really not fans of sock puppetry shenanigans, so, you know. Fair warning. If certain services in particular seem to attract a lot of shenanigan activity, we'll just delete the posting.
